Update: Plant Operations Building At The University Of Delaware On Fire

Newark –  Firefighters from Aetna Hose, Hook, and Ladder, along with crews from the Christiana Fire Company are responding to 200 Academy Street for reports that the UD Plant Operations Building in on fire.

Arriving crews are reporting smoke showing from the roof of the of the building.

Crews are now reporting fire in the attic. Command has struck a second alarm, ordering Ladder 12 to open the roof.

Firefighters from across New Castle County are responding to the scene.

7:24 pm Update: Crews are having a hard time locating the source of the fire. Two additional companies requested.

7:48 pm Update: Command is reporting that most of the fire has been knocked down. Crews are ventilating the building and checking for hotspots. All crews to remain on scene.

8:08 pm Update: Command has called the scene under control. All crews working and to remain on scene.

Academy Street remains closed
