Armed Robbery Thwarted By Alert Employee

Wilmington – Delaware State Police are investigating the attempted armed robbery of a north Wilmington business that took place last night, according to Public Information Officer, Master Corporal Michael Austin.

Austin said the incident occurred at approximately 7:51 p.m., Sunday, February 18, 2018, at the Family Dollar store, located at 4331 Northeast Boulevard, Wilmington.

Two black male suspects, one brandishing a handgun, approached the cashier at the sales counter and demanded money from the register, according to Austin. Prior to the cashier opening the register a second employee became aware of what was occurring and proceeded towards the sales counter, said Austin. At this time both suspects fled the business without obtaining any money. The suspects were last seen entering into a dark colored vehicle which fled northbound. Neither employee was injured as a result of the incident.

Suspect #1, who was armed with a silver handgun, was described as a black male, 18 years of age, 5’7”-5’9”, wearing all dark clothing to include a cloth covering over his face.

Suspect #2, was described as a black male, 18 years of age, 5’7”-5’9”, wearing a dark jacket, light colored pants, also with a cloth covering his face.
