Newark – At approximately 8:30 this morning rescue crews from Aetna Hose, Hook, and Ladder, along with crews from the Christiana Fire Company and Newark Police responded to Route 4 and Elkton Road for reports of a five-vehicle accident involving a Newark Charter school bus.

Upon arrival, Newark Police Officers found five vehicles with different levels of damage. One of the vehicles was lodged underneath an occupied white Dodge Neon, another vehicle had heavy front-end damage and the last vehicle had rear end damage.  It’s not clear if the bus actually made contact with any other vehicles.

Initial reports from the scene indicate that two patients were transported to Christiana Hospital with non-life-threating injuries.

None of the children on the bus were injured, according to reports.  Once all of the students were evaluated by medical crews they were transported to the school via a replacement bus.

Christiana Parkway (Route 4) was closed for about an hour while police investigated the accident.
