Officials Update Why State Police Helicopter Was Dispatched To Smyrna Prison

Smyrna – On Tuesday, February 6, 2018, two inmates were involved in a physical altercation, according to Chief Community Relations Office of the Commissioner Jayme Gravell.

Gravell said paramedics responded to the scene and requested assistance from the Delaware State Police. One of the inmates involved in the incident was treated and released by an area hospital.

There are no reports of injury to DOC staff, said Gravell.

Breaking Report

Smyrna – At approximately 7:54 last night rescue crews, along with Trooper 4 (Delaware State Police Aviation) responded to the James T. Vaughn Correctional Center for reports of an assault.

Responding medics advised dispatch that Trooper 4 would be utilized for transport. Early reports indicate that at least one person was transported to the hospital with undetermined injuries.

We’re awaiting more information from officials with the Department of Corrections.
