Troopers Arrest Prices Corner Bank Robbery Suspect

Wilmington (19808) – The Delaware State Police have arrested a Wilmington man and charged him in connection with the robbery of a Wilmington area bank that occurred last month, according to Director of Public Information, Sergeant Richard Bratz.

Bratz said the investigation has determined the incident occurred on Saturday, January 20, 2018, at approximately 9:45 a.m. as a male suspect entered the Wells Fargo Bank located at 3215 Old Capital Trail, Wilmington. The investigation revealed that an unknown white male entered the bank wearing a disguise and demanded money from the tellers, according to Bratz.

The tellers complied turning over an undisclosed amount of money to him. After the robbery, the suspect was observed fleeing in a dark-colored Jeep Grand Cherokee onto Kirkwood Highway in an unknown direction, said Bratz.

As the investigation continued detectives located the suspect vehicle on February 15, 2018, in the parking lot of a motel in Smyrna. The next day the suspect was seen leaving the motel and was stopped by troopers. The suspect was identified as Douglas W. Walker, 39 of Wilmington. After obtaining a search warrant for the suspect’s vehicle evidence linking him to the robbery was located inside the vehicle, according to Bratz.

Douglas W. Walker was transported to Troop 2 and was charged with two counts of Robbery 2nd Degree and two counts of Wearing a Disguise during the Commission of a Felony. He was arraigned before the Justice of the Peace Court 2 and was committed to Howard R. Young Correctional Institution in default of $24,000.00 cash bond.

Prices Corner – The Delaware State Police are investigating the robbery of a Wells Fargo Bank located in the Prices Corner Shopping Center that occurred this morning, according to Public Information Officer, Master Corporal Melissa Jaffe.

Jaffe said the initial investigation has determined that the incident occurred at approximately 9:45 a.m. on Saturday, January 20, 2018, as a male suspect wearing a disguise entered the Wells Fargo Bank located at 3215 Old Capital Trail. The suspect made contact with two employees and demanded money, said Jaffe. The employees complied with the suspect’s demands and turned over an undisclosed amount of cash. The suspect then exited the bank and fled in an unknown direction. There were no reports of injuries from this incident.

The suspect was described as a white male, approximately 30-40 years of age, 6’01” to 6’02” tall and weighing 170-200 lbs. The suspect was last seen wearing a dark-colored hooded sweatshirt, dark colored pants, with a light colored disguise covering his face. There is no further physical or clothing description available. No video surveillance photos are available to be released at this time.

Earlier reports that a suspect had been arrested were incorrect.  Troopers stopped at least two individuals in the area that met the suspect’s description. Both were briefly detained and let go after Troopers determined they were not the suspect.
