Troopers: Witness Tackles Armed Robbery Suspect In Pike Creek

Wilmington  – Delaware State Police are investigating the armed robbery of a Wilmington area Dunkin’ Donuts that took place this morning, according to Director of Public Information, Sergeant Richard Bratz.

Bratz said the incident occurred at approximately 11:20 a.m. Friday, February 16, 2018, at the Dunkin’ Donuts located at 4557 New Linden Hill Road, Wilmington. The suspect, who was armed a handgun, confronted the employees of the business and demanded money from the cash registers, according to Bratz. The employees complied with the suspect’s demands and turned over an undisclosed amount of money to him. The suspect then exited the business and fled in an unknown direction. There were no injuries.

During the robbery the suspect wore a mask to conceal his identity and displayed, according to Bratz.  A witness observed the suspect running from the store and contacted the business to confirm a robbery had just occurred. The witness then followed the suspect and observed him run through a wooded area directly behind the business. After waiting for the suspect to exit the wooded area, the witness tackled and detained the suspect on the roadway until troopers arrived. No injuries were reported during the incident.

The suspect was identified as Michael D. Bennett Jr., 32 of Wilmington. He was transported to Troop 2 where he was charged with three counts of Robbery 1st Degree and Wearing a Disguise during the Commission of a Felony. He was arraigned before the Justice of the Peace Court 2 and was committed to Howard R. Young Correctional Institution in default of $186,000.00 secured bond.
