10th Annual Easter Shoe Drive Set To Take Place On Saturday

Mayor Mike Purzycki today expressed his support for the Black Visionary Designers Barber Salon’s Annual Easter Shoe Drive, set to take place on Saturday, March 31, 2018, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Started in 2009 by salon owner Terrone Warren, this effort to make a difference in the community has given away more than three thousand pairs of shoes and sneakers to local residents. According to Warren, last year’s drive alone collected close to 1,100 new and used shoes and sneakers for distribution.

“For the past ten years, Terrone and his partners at the Black Visionary Designers Barber Salon have been positive role models for our community,” said Mayor Purzycki. “They have worked tirelessly to build a lasting, productive relationship in the community where they live and work. This effort is just one of many through which local residents benefit from the salon’s commitment to improve the lives of the people they serve.”

“I would encourage individuals and businesses to double check their closets this week and donate new or slightly used shoes and sneakers to this worthwhile cause,” the Mayor continued.

“Easter is a time of new beginnings,” said Terrone Warren, “and what better way to help those who are less fortunate than by lifting their spirit during this holiday season. We will continue to support our community in any way that we can. It is not just about us and what we do as professionals, it’s about the community and what we can offer them in addition to providing them a service,” continued Warren.

Besides the Easter Shoe Drive, Black Visionary Designers Barber Salon also offers $5 back-to-school haircuts for students each September, holds an Annual Unity Day at Eastside Charter School, sponsors several chess tournaments, holds a Thanksgiving Turkey Drive each November as well as a Christmas Coat Drive in December. Staff members also volunteer their time for various community outreach events.

Donations will be accepted at BVD Barber Salon, 223 W. 8th Street (next to Libby’s Restaurant) until Friday, March 30, or staff can arrange to pick up sneakers and shoes at your convenience.
