Update: Shooter Dead At Maryland High School, Two Wounded, One In Critical

Lexington Park, Md – Police are currently investigating a shooting that occurred at Great Mills High School.  Local authorities say that two students were wounded before the School Resource Officer (SRO) engaged the shooter.

Officials said that the shooter ran as the officer arrived on scene. The SRO gave chase and fired at least one round at the shooter. The officer fired his weapon striking the suspect at the same time that the shooter fired his weapon, believed to be a self inflicted head wound. It’s unclear if the shooter died from the officers gunfire or his own.

One of the patients is listed in critical condition, while the second is in stable condition.

Breaking Report 

Police are currently clearing Great Mills High School after a shooting occurred this morning, according Maryland State police.

Rescue crews have activated their mass casualty plans. At least two patients have been wounded, according to radio traffic.

The St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office is asking parents to stay away from Great Mills High School. They should report to Leonardtown High School. Students will be taken there.

Update: Police have cleared the first floor of the school. No word on the shooter at this time.

Update: ATF Baltimore Tweeted that they are responding to are responding to the scene but it’s unclear why.

Update: Ambulance crews were dispatched at 8:02 am, first ambulance arrived on scene at 8:05 am.

Update: Upon arrival medics asked for a mass casualty unit to respond to the scene.

Update: Radio reports indicate that three people have been shot.

Update: Two patients with serious injuries, one with a leg wound.

Update: 9:56 Students are being evacuated from GMHS and being bused to the reunification center at the Leonardtown HS campus. The building is orderly and the Sheriff’s Office is conducting an investigation, according to the school district.
