Authorities Release More Information Regarding I-495 Crash That Sent Three To The Hospital, Closed Road

 

Newark – At approximately 1:45 this afternoon, New Castle County Paramedics, St. Francis EMS and Wilmington Fire Department were dispatched to Interstate 495 Northbound on the Christina River Bridge for a motor vehicle crash, according to Paramedic First Class Yvonne T. Russell.

Upon arrival, New Castle County Paramedics found 3 patients. The first patient, 64-year-old male, suffered injuries to his head with body wide pain. The patient was transported to Christiana Hospital via St. Francis EMS ambulance accompanied by New Castle County Paramedics. The patient was in stable condition at the time of transport.

The second patient, 21-year-old male, suffered injuries to his head. The patient was transported to Christiana Hospital via St. Francis EMS ambulance accompanied by New Castle County Paramedics. The patient was in serious condition at the time of transport.

The third patient, 30-year-old female, suffered injuries to her head, neck, abdomen and back. The patient was transported to Christiana Hospital via St. Francis EMS ambulance accompanied by New Castle County Paramedics. The patient was in stable condition at the time of transport.

Initial reports from the scene indicated that at least on of the patients was trapped upon rescue crews arrival.

Delaware State Police is investigating the crash.

Breaking Report

Wilmington – Rescues have responded to I-495 Northbound at the Christiana River Bridge for reports of a serious accident.

Upon arrival crews found 3 patients, at  least one of which was trapped in the vehicle, according to reports.

I-495 Northbound is currently shutdown at the Christiana River Bridge. On looker traffic is also slowing the southbound lanes as well.

Update:Troopers said the road was reopened around 3:00 o’clock.
