Austin said the incident occurred at approximately 5:26 p.m., Thursday, April 5, 2018, on I-95 northbound, south of DE 141, in New Castle, when a 57-year-old Dover man, who was operating a 2000 Chevrolet Tahoe, experienced a suspected medical emergency, which caused him to lose control of his vehicle.

The Tahoe which was traveling I-95 northbound in the right lane, suddenly veered left in to the path of a 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt, being driven by a 27-year-old female from New Castle, at which time the two vehicles collided. The Tahoe continued traveling in a northwest direction, across all lanes of I-95 before colliding with a concrete barrier, where it came to rest. The Cobalt and the Mazda came to rest in the I-95 northbound left two lanes.

The driver of the Tahoe who was not wearing a seatbelt, was transported to the Christiana Hospital in serious condition. The driver of the Cobalt, who was properly restrained, was transported to the Christiana Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the Mazda, who was also properly restrained, was uninjured.
