New Photo Shows How Bad The Fire Was After Route 1 Crash, Driver Rescued By Off-Duty First Responders


Middletown – At 11:32, last evening, April 17, firefighters from the Odessa Fire Company responded to Route 1 NB, about a mile north of Middletown-Odessa Road (Route 299) for reports of a vehicle on fire.

Upon arrival, crews found the vehicle on fire, off the roadway and into the trees. Reports from the scene indicate that the driver was rescued from the by two off duty Firefighter/EMTs.

Ambulance crews and New Castle County Paramedics were summoned to the scene to evaluate the patient. Reports from the scene indicate that the patient was evaluated but was not transported.

An additional fire company was requested to assist with the brush fire.  Route 1 NB was closed as crews worked to place the fire under control.
