New Castle – This morning, at approximately 8:00, New Castle County Paramedics and personnel from the Wilmington Manor, Minquadale, Holloway Terrace, Good Will and Christiana Fire Companies were dispatched to Interstate 295 Northbound at New Castle Avenue, for a motor vehicle crash involving a rollover and entrapment, according to Paramedic Senior Corporal David McKinney, Jr.
Arriving County Paramedics found a one vehicle crash involving a tractor trailer. Fire department personnel were on scene and advised New Castle County Dispatch of heavy entrapment, requiring an extensive extrication.
The New Castle County Special Operations Team was dispatched to assist with extrication of the patient. During an extrication which lasted approximately 90 minutes; the patient, a 37-year-old male, was evaluated by County Paramedics for an arm injury and facial abrasions.
Once removed from the wreckage, the patient was transported to the Emergency Department at Christiana Hospital on board an ambulance from the Wilmington Manor Fire Company with New Castle County Paramedics and the Paramedic from Delaware State Police Trooper 4 on board.
The patient was stable at the time of transport. The Delaware River and Bay Authority Police Department was on scene and is investigating the crash.
Breaking Report
New Castle-Rescue crews from Holloway Terrace, along with Mutual Aid, have responded to I-295 southbound in the area of Route 9 for an accident involving an overturned tractor trailer.
Earlier reports indicate that the driverĀ of the tractor trailer is pinned inside against the guard rail. Rescue crews are currently working to cut the patient out of the vehicle.
Trooper 4 (Delaware State Police Aviation) will transport.
