Troopers: 84-Year-Old Carjacked After Grocery Shopping, Suspect Picked Up Arrested In PA

Wilmington – The Delaware State Police are investigating a carjacking which occurred yesterday afternoon at a local area supermarket, according to Director of Public Information, Sergeant Richard Bratz.

Bratz said the incident occurred at approximately 3:12 p.m.; Monday, April 16, 2018 in the parking lot of the Acme Grocery Store located at 2098 Naamans Road, Wilmington.

The victim, an 84-year-old male of Wilmington, parked his vehicle and entered the store to purchase groceries. After leaving the Acme the victim left his grocery cart on the sidewalk near the entrance/exit to the store. As the victim walked to his car he was approached by a white male wearing a dark hooded jacket who asked him for money. After speaking with the male subject, the victim drove up to the store to load his groceries. As he loaded the groceries the suspect entered the vehicle locked the doors and fled through the parking lot, according to Bratz.

Investigative measures were used to locate the vehicle traveling on I-95 south in the area of Philadelphia. In coordination with the Delaware State Police, the Pennsylvania State Police were able to stop the vehicle on route 452 North and placed the suspect into custody without incident.

The suspect, identified as Sean E. Haines, 46, of Wilmington, was arraigned in Pennsylvania and committed to the Delaware County Prison in Pennsylvania on $50,000.00 cash bond and is awaiting extradition back to Delaware. Sean E. Haines currently has active warrants for Car Jacking 1st Degree in the state of Delaware.
