Tractor Trailer Overturned On Summit Bridge Road, Chickens Are Everywhere

Middletown – DE-896/Summit Bridge Road  southbound is currently down to one lane due to an overturned tractor trailer.

Crews are on scene, just south of the Summit Bridge, working to cleanup pallets of livestock that were thrown from the truck as it attempted to negotiate a sharp curve in the road.

Early reports indicate that the trucks fuel tanks were damages during the accident. This prompted a response from Belvedere Fire Companies HAZMAT Team and the Delaware Department of Natural resources and Environmental Control (DNREC).

Just after 1:30 this morning a caller called 911, telling dispatchers that a tractor trailer had overturned and chickens are everywhere.

The condition of the driver is not known at this time.
