Dover – At approximately 8:30 last evening, rescue crews from the Dover Fire Department were dispatched to Route 1 near the main toll plaza for reports of a vehicle accident with injuries.

While en route to the scene crews learned that one of the vehicles was on fire. As they arrived on scene, crews reported that the vehicle was fully involved.

As firefighters worked to bring the fire under control, medical crews worked to treat four patients injured in the accident.

After accessing the scene, Route 1 Command requested additional ambulance crews.  A Dover Fire Department Ambulance, along with an ambulance crew from the Cheswold Fire Company responded to the scene within minutes.

It’s believed that all four patients were transported to area hospitals.
