Level 1 Mass Casualty Incident Declared In Sussex County After Head-On Collision

File

Georgetown – Just before 7:30 this morning, Tuesday, July 17, 2018, rescue crews from the Seaford, Bridgeville, Delmar and Blades Fire Companies, along with crews from other local agencies responded to the 12000 block of Seashore Highway for reports of a vehicle accident with multiple injuries.

Responding crews were told by dispatch that one person was possibly trapped after a rollover crash.  Shortly after that report, responding Delaware State Troopers (DSP) reported that the patient was not trapped but was seriously injured.

Upon arrival, crews alerted dispatch that the two vehicles had been involved in a head-on collision, with one of the vehicles off the roadway. Subsequent reports indicated that five patients were injured in the accident.

Command quickly alerted dispatch that the incident was a Level 1 Mass Casualty Incident due to the number of patients involved. Crews reported that one child and four adults were being treated at the scene.

At least two of the patients were transported by ground to Nanticoke Hospital in Seaford.

Developing.

Note: The patient who was flown to the trauma center in Stanton was injured in the Millsboro accident, not this accident.
