Man Killed When In Personal Watercraft Accident Near Fenwick Island

Fenwick Island – Delaware Fish & Wildlife Natural Resources Police officers are investigating a fatal boating accident involving personal watercraft (PWC) that occurred at approximately 1:41 p.m. today on Roy’s Creek off Assawoman Bay in Sussex County.

A 53-year-old man, who was operating a PWC, was pronounced dead at Atlantic General Hospital in Berlin, Md. The name of the deceased is being withheld, pending notification of family members.

Officials said that alcohol was not a contributing factor in the fatal PWC accident. The investigation into the incident is ongoing, Fish & Wildlife Natural Resources Police said Saturday evening.

Fenwick Island – At 1:38 this afternoon, Saturday, July 28, 2018 rescue crews from the Roxana Volunteer Fire Company, along with crews from the Bethany Beach Volunteer Fire Company, Sussex County EMS and Trooper 2 (Delaware State Police Aviation) responded to a boat dock on the bayside of Fenwick Island for reports of an injury accident involving a Jet Ski.

Early reports indicate the two people were injured in a personal watercraft accident along the Maryland/Delaware state line.

As crews responded to the scene they were advised that life-saving measure were underway for one patient.

Upon arrival, crews reported a seriously injured priority one patient.

Command advised additional crews to search the water for additional patients.

At the same time that crews were working the accident, additional crews were dispatched to deal with a patient suffering from a dislocated arm. It’s unclear if this was the second patient previously reported. (Update: Dislocated arm injury is not associated with this accident., according to investigators.)

Crews searching the water found the scene of the accident and alerted Command that no other patients were in the water.

Crews also advised Command that the skis involved in the accident were being towed in with heavy damage.

It’s believed that crews received the initial reports from the Coast Guard but that has not been confirmed.

Officials have not released any details regarding this incident.
