Newark– Delaware State Police are investigating a serious crash involving a motorcycle this afternoon south of Newark, according to Director of Public Information, Sergeant Richard Bratz.
Bratz said the incident occurred at approximately 3:19 p.m. on Sunday, August 26, 2018 when a 1989 Harley-Davidson motorcycle, operated by Robert F. Parkhill, 49 of Elkton, Maryland, was traveling on the exit ramp from I-95 southbound, John F. Kennedy Memorial Highway, to Highway 896 southbound (South College Avenue). The operator appeared to be traveling at a high rate of speed and failed to negotiate the curve on the ramp and struck the guardrail face, according to Bratz. The motorcycle struck the left shoulder guardrail with its left front side and stopped on the ramp. The force of the collision caused the motorcycle operator to be ejected over the guardrail onto the grass between the ramp and southbound 896.
The operator was transported by EMS to a local area hospital with serious injuries. He was cited for Careless Driving, No Motorcycle License, Operating a Motorcycle without Complete Attention and No Proof of Insurance.
