Police Say Off-Duty Officer Caught Rapist In The Act, Heard Woman’s Scream

Just before 1:00 on Saturday morning, September 15, 2018,  Wilmington Police Officers responded to the 700 block of S.Broom Street, Kosciuszko Park, in regard to a female screaming. While officers were en route, an off-duty Wilmington Police Officer also heard the screams of the female.

As he entered the park, the off-duty officer observed a female being sexually assaulted by a man, later identified as Joselito Rojas, 45, of Pennsylvania, according to police. Rojas was then taken into custody after resisting arrest.

Rojas was charged with the following: Rape in the 1st degree, Possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony, and resisting arrest.

He was arraigned at Court #11 and he is currently being held at the Howard R Young Correctional Facility on $250,000 cash bail.

Rojas is also  wanted on an outstanding fugitive warrant from another state as well, according to police.
