Troopers Update Police Chase That Ended In Maryland, Trooper Vehicle Struck

New Castle – Delaware State Police are investigating the robbery of a convenience store that occurred Saturday night, according to Director of Public Information, Sergeant Richard Bratz.

Bratz said the incident occurred on Saturday, September 15, 2018, at approximately 8:00 p.m. when troopers were dispatched to the 7-Eleven Store located at 284 Christiana Road, New Castle for a report of a robbery. The investigation revealed the suspect entered the store and confronted the clerk. The suspect displayed a handgun and demanded money from the clerk, according to Bratz. The clerk complied and turned over an undisclosed amount of money. The suspect fled the scene in a Dodge Dakota pickup truck.

Middletown Police Department was familiar with the vehicle and had active warrants on the suspect. They assisted with the description of the vehicle and tag number, said Bratz. The New Castle County Police Department observed the suspect vehicle and a pursuit ensued. The suspect was able to elude police and that pursuit ended. Minutes later a DNREC Fish and Wildlife Police Officer spotted the suspect vehicle on Lorewood Grove Road north of Middletown.

Troopers, along with the Delaware State Police Aviation (Trooper 4) responded to maintain a visual of the suspect’s vehicle in the area of West Churchtown Road into Maryland. The pursuit ended on Mitton Road, Chesapeake, Maryland after ramming into a trooper’s vehicle, according to Bratz.

The suspect driver of the Dodge Dakota, identified as Timothy J. Brewer, 42 of Middletown, continued to rev the engine of the truck and refused verbal commands issued by troopers on scene. He subsequently tased and taken into custody. A black handgun-style pellet gun was observed in the Dodge Dakota, said Bratz. Brewer was transported to the Northeast Barracks of the Maryland State Police for processing. He remains in custody in Maryland on felony warrants related to the criminal and traffic charges pending his extradition back to Delaware.

A computer check revealed, Timothy J. Brewer was also wanted by Middletown Police Department for Robbery and an active warrant from Troop 9, Odessa for Burglary. Warrants were obtained by DSP for Robbery 1st Degree, Disregard a Police Officer Signal and Resist Arrest. NCCPD also obtained warrants for multiple traffic violations.
