I-295 SB Down To One Lane Due To Tractor-Trailer Crash

New Castle – The Delaware State Police are investigating a single vehicle crash involving a tractor-trailer that occurred Sunday night on I-295.

The incident occurred at approximately 9:33 p.m., Sunday, October 28, 2018, on southbound I-295, just north of DE-141. A 2017 Freightliner tractor-trailer, hauling approximately 35,000 pounds of produce, operated by a 37-year-old male from Ellicott City Maryland, was traveling in the right lane when he swerved to avoid striking another vehicle, according to Public Information Officer, Master Corporal Michael Austin.

After avoiding the vehicle the tractor-trailer continued to veer right, striking a guardrail. After impacting the guardrail the tractor-trailer traveled off the roadway, and down an embankment where it came to rest. There were no other vehicles involved in the collision, and the operator of the tractor-trailer was not injured.

Traffic on I-295 southbound is restricted to a single lane while repairs are done to the damaged section of guardrail.
