Lewes- The 28-year-old Georgetown man who was involved in a crash on Tuesday has succumbed to his injuries, according to the Delaware State Police.
Officials said that they are investigating the fatal crash involving a moped that occurred on Tuesday, October 23, 2018, at approximately 6:38 p.m., on John J. Williams Highway (SR 24) approaching the entrance of the Peddler’s Village Shopping Center.
The man, who was operating the moped, was not wearing a helmet, said Police. He was initially transported to the Beebe Medical Center and later transferred the Christiana Hospital in serious condition where he succumbed to his injuries 0n Thursday, October 25, 2018. His name is being withheld at this time pending the notification of next of kin and extended family members.

The Delaware State Police are investigating a serious crash involving a Moped that occurred last evening, according to Public Information Officer, Master Corporal Melissa Jaffe.
Jaffe said the incident occurred on Tuesday, October 23, 2018, at approximately 6:38 p.m., when a CIXK Moped was traveling westbound on John J. Williams Highway (SR 24) approaching the entrance of the Peddler’s Village Shopping Center in Lewes. A Jeep Wrangler was traveling eastbound on John J. Williams Highway towards the Peddler’s Village entrance. The Wrangler came to a stop in the left turn lane on SR 24, waiting to turn left into the Peddler’s Village entrance. The Wrangler proceeded to turn left into the entrance, directly in the path of the Moped, said Jaffe. The impact caused the Moped and the operator of the Moped to be redirected to the westbound side of the roadway.
The operator of the Moped, a 28-year-old Georgetown man, initially transported to the Beebe Medical Center, was later transferred to Christiana Hospital in serious condition.
The operator of the Wrangler, a 16-year-old male from Millsboro was properly restrained and did not sustain injuries. There were also two passengers in the Wrangler at the time of the crash, who did not sustain injuries.
The roadway was closed for approximately 3 hours while the crash was investigated and cleared.
Jaffe said the operator of the Moped was not wearing a helmet.
The crash continues to remain under investigation by the Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit.
