On Monday, October 15, the Delaware River and Bay Authority’s (DRBA) contractor, JD Eckman of Atglen, PA, will be working to repair an expansion joint on the Twin Spans of the Delaware Memorial Bridge during the nighttime hours for a three day period, Monday, October 15 through Wednesday, October 16, 2018. said DRBA Public Information Officer James Salmon.
· Monday, October 15: This repair work will require the closure of two left lanes on the New Jersey bound span at 8:00 pm. A third lane will be closed at 9:00 pm. The far right lane will be open to traffic. At approximately 1:00A on October 16, the two (2) right lanes of the same bridge will be closed to complete the expansion joint repair. The switchover, which is expected to take about 15 minutes, will be facilitated by a rolling road closure of all lanes traffic – with the left lanes re-opening to traffic. Expansion joint repair work is expected to be completed by 5:00A.
· Tuesday, October 16: The right two lanes will be closed on the New Jersey bound span at 8:00 pm. A third lane will close at 9:00 pm. Only the far right lane will be open to traffic. At approximately 1:00am on October 17, the two (2) left lanes of the same bridge will be closed to complete the expansion joint repair. The switchover, which is expected to take about 15 minutes, will be facilitated by a rolling road closure of all lanes traffic – with the left lanes re-opening to traffic. Expansion joint repair work is expected to be completed by 5:00A.
· Wednesday, October 17: The expansion joint repair work will be done on the Delaware-bound span. This repair work will require the closure of two left lanes on the Delaware bound span at 8:00 pm. A third lane will be closed at 9:00 pm. The far right lane will be open to traffic. At approximately 1:00 am on October 18, the two (2) right lanes of the same bridge will be closed to complete the expansion joint repair. The switchover, which is expected to take about 15 minutes, will be facilitated by a rolling road closure of all lanes traffic – with the left lanes re-opening to traffic. Expansion joint repair work is expected to be completed by 5:00 am.
Motorists should expect delays during the construction time period, particularly during the rolling road closure. The safety of the traveling public and on-site highway contractors is the agency’s highest priority. Travelers are urged to be careful and stay alert in and around construction zones, obey all posted speed limit signs, and add some additional time to reach their final destination.
Should inclement weather occur, the expansion joint repair work will be moved to the nighttime hours on Thursday, October 18, 2018.
