Wilmington – The Delaware State Police are investigating an incident in which a woman was threatened with a hammer, and are asking for the public’s help in identifying the suspect, according to Public Information Officer, Master Corporal Michael Austin.
Austin said on Sunday, October 14, 2018, at approximately 4:38 p.m., Troopers responded to the Wawa located at 2030 Limestone Road, Wilmington, in reference to a male subject threatening a female with a hammer. Upon their arrival, the Troopers located the 31-year-old victim who was still in the parking lot, however, the suspect had already fled the scene, according to Austin.
The investigation determined that the victim was in a retail establishment on the Kirkwood Highway when she observed the male suspect, who she believed was following her. She felt uncomfortable with the suspect’s actions so she left the store and drove to the Wawa. As she was driving she observed the male following her in his vehicle. After pulling in to a parking space at the Wawa, the suspect pulled in directly behind the victim, blocking her vehicle. The suspect then approached the victim as she sat in her vehicle and began banging on her window, demanding that she exit the vehicle and talk to him, according to Austin. When she refused the suspect returned to his vehicle and retrieved a hammer which he proceeded to wave at the victim, again demanding she exit her vehicle, added Austin. The victim remained in her vehicle and the suspect eventually fled onto Limestone Road. The victim was not injured as a result of the incident
The suspect is described as a Hispanic male, 30-35 years of age, 5’5”-5’9” tall. His vehicle was described as a brown or grey Ford Explorer.
Anyone with information regarding the identity or whereabouts of the pictured suspect is asked to contact Cpl. J. Jefferson at Troop 6 by calling 302-633-5000.
