Police: Victim Tracks Down Trio Who Robbed Him In Newark, Friend Gets Run Over

On Thursday evening, November 15, 2018, at about 8:50, a 21-year-old man was walking in the unit block of White Clay Drive in Newark when a vehicle drove past him and stopped, according to Lt Andrew Rubin.

Rubin said three black males exited the vehicle, one of them displaying a baseball bat, and ordered the man to turn over his property. One of the suspects slapped and punched the victim in the head before the three suspects returned to the vehicle and fled on North College Avenue with the man’s property, according to Rubin.

After returning to his residence, the victim, along with his friend attempted to locate the suspects, while at the same time calling the police. The pair was able to locate the suspects and confront them in an alleyway off of East Cleveland Avenue, said Rubin. The suspects attempted to drive away and the friend, a 22-year-old man, jumped onto the suspect vehicle and fell off. As the suspect vehicle fled, it drove over the friend’s leg and struck a parked vehicle. The suspect vehicle was last seen fleeing eastbound on East Cleveland Avenue.

As a result of this incident, the initial victim sustained a bruise on his head. He did not require medical attention. The friend sustained an injury to his leg and was treated and released from an area hospital.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact Detective P. Keld at (302) 366-7100 x. 3106 or [email protected].
