Brother Of Eagles’ Defensive End Killed In Hit-And-Run Crash, Suspect Charged

The brother of Philadelphia Eagles’ defensive end, Derek Barnett, was killed in a hit-and-run crash in Nashville, Tennessee at approximately 3:25 this morning.

Officials said Felipe Castelblanco, 47, of Smyrna, Tennessee was driving his 1997 Ford Econoline van westbound on Burkitt Road when he crossed over into oncoming traffic and collided with the eastbound driver of a 2011 Dodge Challenger, David D. Barnett, 33, of Nashville. Barnett died at the scene.

Fatal crash investigators have charged Castelblanco with vehicular homicide by intoxication for Tuesday’s head-on collision on Burkitt Road near Whittemore Lane, according to Nashville Police.

Castelblanco walked away from the scene but was taken into custody a short distance away, according to police. Officials said he smelled strongly of alcohol, was unsteady on his feet, and had bloodshot/watery eyes. Castelblanco admitted to drinking whiskey prior to the crash, officials added.

Castelblanco is also charged with leaving the scene of a fatal crash, failure to render aid, and failure to notify law enforcement. He is being held in lieu of $100,000 bond.
