The Delaware Office of the State Fire Marshal is investigating this evening’s fire and explosion inside the home of former New Castle County Executive Tom Gordon.
Investigators said the Hockessin Fire Company responded to the 200 block of Louis Lane in the Belle Terre development shortly before 8:00 pm for a report of a fire inside the house. Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire and render the home safe from any further damage.
State fire investigators were called to the scene and are currently conducting the investigation. An explosion had occurred inside the home causing damage to a first-floor room. A fire inside the same room was quickly extinguished. Investigators are searching for the ignition source that ignited flammable vapors inside the home.
Damage was estimated at $40,000. None of the four occupants were injured. This incident remains under investigation.

Breaking Report
Hockessin – Just before 8:00 this evening firefighters from the Hockessin Fire Company, along with crews from the Cranston Heights, Mill Creek, and Elsmere Fire Companies responded to the 200 block of Louis Lane for reports of a residential structure fire.
While en route crews were told that a television was on fire in the residence. Radio traffic indicates that there was an explosion at the home.
At around 8:40 the Hockessin Fire Company posted the following statement on their Facebook Page: Hockessin along with units from Cranston Heights, Mill Creek, and Elsmere are on-scene at the 200 block of Rammuno Circle for a residential fire. NCC Collapse Team is en route to secure a partial collapse. Units are under control but working. Belvedere, Minquas and Five Points also responded on the initial dispatch.
Rammuno Circle is one street over from the Louis Lane location. It’s believed that this is the same incident.
