Latest: US Marshals’ Search For Suspect Leads To Lockdown, Heavy Police Presence

Wilmington –  At around 4:00 this afternoon reports of a large police presence in the area of the Chestnut Run Dupont facility began coming in.

As those reports were coming in we began hearing that employees at the facility were asked by the authorities to shelter in place.

Officials tell First State Update that U.S. Marshals were attempting to arrest a suspect, believed to be a murder suspect from New York, when he jumped from the second floor of a nearby Lancaster Avenue apartment and fled on foot.

Sources said after the suspect jumped from the apartment he ran barefoot towards the Dupont facility. While this was happening  Delaware State Police, U.S. Marshals, New Castle County Police, and Wilmington Police set up a perimeter and brought in Trooper 4 (Delaware State Police Aviation) to assist from the air.

At around the time that all of the reports began coming in a Delaware State Trooper made an arrest. It’s unclear if that arrest was the suspect being taken into custody.

We do know that shortly after that arrest, the helicopter left the area, police began to leave the area and the shelter in place order was lifted.

We’re working to gather more information.
