One Dead, Two Firefighters Injured In New Castle House Fire

The Delaware Office of the State Fire Marshal is investigating this morning’s fire in New Castle, Delaware.  One person was found deceased inside the home.

The blaze, reported shortly before 10:00 am, occurred in the 1000 block of Old Forge Road in the Meadows of Wilton near Wilton Boulevard.  The Christiana Fire Company arrived on the scene with flames shooting from the two-story townhouse. Firefighters found one person deceased inside the burning house.  

State fire investigators are currently on the scene conducting the investigation.  The Delaware Division of Forensic Science will conduct an autopsy tomorrow on the victim.

Heavy fire damage to three townhouse units was estimated at $200,000.  Two firefighters suffered injuries during the fire. One was transported with an ankle injury. A second firefighter was injured suffering burns to his hand and head.  He is in good condition at the Christiana Hospital. 

This fire remains under investigation.

Firefighters from the Christiana Fire Company, along with crews from across New Castle County are responding to the Meadows At Wilton Townhouses on Old Forge Road in Bear for reports of a fire with subjects trapped.

Upon arrival, crews are reporting fire showing. Command has struck a second alarm.

Crews reporting fire on the first and second floor.

All EMS crews have been ordered to the front of the building.

Crews reporting heavy fire on the second floor.

Dispatch is reporting that the equivalent of a third alarm is on scene.

All visible fire knocked down. Smoke coming from the attic.

One patient is being treated. The primary search for additional patients has resulted in negative results.

Crews are reporting a partial collapse in the floor. No injuries just a warning to other crews.

One firefighter has been transported to the hospital due to a minor foot injury. Not associated with the collapse in the floor.

The fire has been placed under control. Crews remain on scene.

The mobile command unit has arrived on scene.
