Troopers ID 23-Year-Old Dover Man Struck And Killed On Sunday

Felton– The Delaware State Police have identified 23-year-old Chaqui Batson of Dover as the person killed in the crash that occurred on Sunday, December 2, 2018, on S. Dupont Hwy (US 13) north of Barney Jenkins Road.

Felton– The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating a fatal crash involving a pedestrian that occurred last evening, according to Public Information Officer, Master Corporal Melissa Jaffe.

Jaffe said the incident occurred on Sunday, December 2, 2018, at approximately 8:14 p.m. when a 2018 Nissan Murano was traveling southbound on S. Dupont Hwy (US 13) in the left lane north of Barney Jenkins Road. A Pedestrian was walking southbound on S. Dupont Hwy (US 13) in the left lane north of Barney Jenkins Road when he was struck by the Murano, said Jaffe. After impact, the pedestrian was thrown onto the southbound shoulder where he came to rest on the edge of the roadway.

The driver of the Murano, a 24-year-old male from Salisbury, Maryland was properly restrained and not injured.

The pedestrian, a 23-year-old male from Dover was wearing all dark clothing without any type of reflective material and not carrying a flashlight. He was transported to the Bayhealth Kent General Hospital were he was pronounced deceased. His name is being withheld at this time pending the notification of next of kin.

The roadway was closed for approximately 3 hours while the scene was investigated and the roadway was cleared.
