Happening Now: Overturned Tanker Shuts Down I-95 In Both Directions At MD/DE State Line

Elkton, Md. – Delaware State Police are reporting that a fully loaded fuel tanker has overturned on I-95 NB at Route 279.

Rescue crews from Elkton’s Singerly fire Company, Newark’s Aetna Hose, Hook, and Ladder have responded to the scene and are working to free the driver.

The University of Maryland Medical Center’s Go Team is en route via Maryland State Police Aviation Trooper 1.

Aetna’s Chief, Andrew Bowerson has requested additional crews from New Castle County.

I-95 has been shut down in both directions.

Update – 1:42 The driver has been extricated from the vehicle and being packaged for the flight to the hospital.

Update: HAZMAT Teams have arrived on scene. The truck was reportedly leaking fluids from the cab but not the tanker. This could keep the roadway closed for several more hours.
