Happening Now: Rescue Underway Near Newark, Old Baltimore Pike Shutdown

Newark – Rescue crews from the Christiana Fire Company have responded to the 200 block of Old Baltimore Pike for reports that a worker has fallen into a hole.

Crews on scene are reporting that a construction worker has fallen into a 10-foot deep trench and is injured. The New Castle County Special Operations HACSR Team is en route to the scene.

Crews are setting up a trench rescue operation. Command has ordered that Old Baltimore Pike closed in the area of the Girl Scouts building.

Update: 10:48 am Command has requested that Trooper 4 (Delaware State Poice Aviation) respond to the scene.

Update: 11:05 am Command has told Trooper 4 that it will be at least 30 more minutes before they will be utilized.

Update: Just before 12:00 the patient has been removed from the trench.
