Police: Teen Shot To Death At Brandywine Apartments Near State Line

Yesterday, Thursday, January 24, 2019, at approximately 6:36 p.m., Patrol Officers from the New Castle County Division of Police were dispatched to the area of Jacqueline Drive in the community of Brandywine Apartments for a report of shots fired.

When officers arrived on the scene, they located an unresponsive male juvenile with an apparent gunshot wound. Officers initiated life-saving efforts on the juvenile and he was later transported to an area hospital by emergency medical services. The victim ultimately succumbed to his injury. The juvenile was later positively identified as 17-year-old Dametrius Benson of the 200 Block of 8th Avenue in Wilmington.

Detectives from the New Castle County Police Criminal Investigations Unit later arrived on scene and have assumed the investigation. There is no suspect information at this time, according to police.

Just before 6:30 this evening rescue crews from the Talleyville Fire Company, Claymont Fire Company, New Castle County Police and Paramedics, Delaware State Police and Trooper 4 were dispatched to the Brandywine Apartments in the 2400 block of Jacqueline Drive for a shooting.

Crews responding to that location reported that a person was down from apparent gunshot wounds.

While en route to the landing zone at Talley Middle School, Trooper 4, was recalled by ground medics as they rushed the patient via ground ambulance to the trauma center.
