Four Displaced In Wilmington Row Home Fire

At 6:30 AM New Castle County, mutual aid fire companies covering the city were alerted to a residential fire at 822 N. Spruce Street. First arriving fire department units found smoke showing from the two-story middle of the row dwelling. Crews stretched fire hose lines and quickly extinguished the fire in a middle bedroom on the second floor. Additional crews searched all levels of the residence, finding no one inside. All occupants had exited the structure prior to fire department arrival.

The fire was contained to the area of origin and is currently being investigated by the Wilmington Fire Marshal’s Office. There are no reported civilian or firefighter injuries. The scene was placed under control at 6:54 AM by the Incident Commander, Deputy Chief Jerome McCaffery. The Red Cross was contacted for 4 adult occupants and 3 children who were displaced because of the fire.

Approximately 24 fire and EMS personnel responded to the fire. The following units responded: NCC Engine 25 (Talleyville), NCC Engine 16 (Elsmere), NCC Ladder 17 (Five Points), WFD Squrt 3, F-1, D-2, Battalion- 12, DSFMO, St. Francis EMS, New Castle County Medics, Wilmington Licenses & Inspections, Delmarva Power and Red Cross.
