Police: Man Attacked By Ax-Wielding Woman In Newark

Earlier this month the Newark Police Department took a report of a physical domestic which occurred at a residence on Madison Drive, according to police.

Officials said during the physical altercation, the female suspect repeatedly struck the male. The assault then escalated to the female swinging an ax at the male victim, police said.

The male was able to avoid the bladed portion of the ax, however, he did sustain minor injuries during the course of the assault.

The female, who police did not identify, fled the residence prior to their arrival. As a result of the investigation, warrants were obtained charging her with Assault 3rd, Aggravated Menacing, Offensive Touching, Possession of a Deadly Weapon During the Commission of a Felony, Criminal Mischief, Reckless Endangering 1st and Possession of a Deadly Weapon During the Commission of a Felony.

The incident occurred on Monday, February 11, 2019, but was not made public at the time. This incident was later made public in a police administrative report that was recently generated.

The report did not indicate if the unidentified woman has been arrested.
