Troopers: Robbery Suspect With Knife Released On Unsecured Bond

Newark- The Delaware State Police have arrested a Newark woman in connection with a robbery that occurred at the Dicks Sporting Goods earlier today, according to Public Information Officer, Master Corporal Melissa Jaffe.

Jaffe said the incident occurred on February 16, 2019, at approximately 1:38 p.m., when Troopers were dispatched to the Dicks Sporting Goods located at 100 Center Boulevard for a report of a robbery in progress. Upon arrival, the suspect, 43-year-old Kelli Collins who initially attempted to flee from police, was taken into custody in the area of Mall Road and Fashion Center Boulevard, said Jaffe. Further investigation revealed that Collins had entered the store, selected approximately $700.00 of merchandise and proceeded to exit the store with the merchandise in hand, according to Jaffe. Prior to Collins exiting the store, a male employee approached her at which point Collins held a small knife in her hand and began attempting to strike the employee numerous times, according to Jaffe. Collins was able to exit the store with the merchandise and began fleeing the scene.

When Collins was apprehended, she was found in possession of approximately 0.1 grams of crack cocaine and drug paraphernalia, said Jaffe. She was transported back to Troop 6 where she was charged with the following:

Robbery First Degree
Resisting Arrest
Possession of a Controlled or Counterfeit Substance
Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
Menacing

She was arraigned before the Justice of the Peace Court 11 and released on $21,500.00 unsecured bond.

Newark – Delaware State Police (DSP) detain suspect near the Christiana Mall.

At around 1:30 this afternoon, Saturday, February 16, 2019, Troopers with the Delaware State Police responding to reports of an armed robbery stopped and detain a suspect near Dick’s Sporting Good’s.

Early reports from the scene indicate that police were told that a shoplifting suspect at Dick’s Sporting Goods displayed a weapon when confronted by a store employee.

Troopers responded within minutes and detained a suspect meeting the description of the alleged shoplifter across the street from the store.

The road to the mall was temporarily blocked by the Trooper’s patrol vehicles while they were out with the suspect.
