Wilmington Police (WPD) have arrested a man carrying a loaded firearm after a brief foot pursuit on February 14.
At approximately 10:27 a.m., police responded to the area of 10th and Pine Streets after a report of a man carrying a firearm. A patrol officer, with the assistance of members of the WPD Safe Streets Task Force, began a canvass and located the man, who fled as they approached him. After a brief foot pursuit, the man was taken into custody in the 1100 block of Kirkwood Street. Officers found a loaded firearm in the man’s pocket, according to police.
Police have charged 29-year-old Andrew Charles with the following:
Carrying a Concealed Deadly Weapon
Possession of a Firearm by a Person Prohibited (Two Counts)
Possession of a Firearm in a Safe School Zone
Resisting Arrest
Charles was also found to have active arrest warrants for aggravated menacing and firearms charges from the Wilmington Police Department, according to police.
Charles was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 11 and was committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on $22,000 cash-only bail for the above charges and an additional $30,000 on previous charges for which he was wanted.
