Authorities: Ejected Driver Found Lying On Route 1 In Critical, But Stable Condition

At 5:30, on March 7, 2019, emergency crews from New Castle County EMS, units from local fire companies, as well as Delaware State Police aviation, were dispatched to the area of Route 1 northbound on the Roth Bridge for a motor vehicle collision with reports of a subject ejected, according to Paramedic Senior Corporal Ruoy Koontz.

Koontz said on arrival, crews found a 20-year-old male patient lying on the roadway that had been ejected from a vehicle. The patient was awake, alert and talking to emergency personnel on their arrival. The patient had lower extremity injuries and was noted to be in critical, but stable condition.

New Castle County paramedics initiated patient care on scene and later flew the patient, via Delaware State Police helicopter to Christiana Hospital for further evaluation and treatment. The Delaware State Police are investigating the incident.

Breaking Report

Just before 5:30 this morning rescue crews responded to the Route 1 NB at the Roth Bridge for reports a rollover crash.

While en route to the scene crews learned that patient may have been ejected from the vehicle.

Upon arrival, crews closed the NB lanes of traffic.  Less than a minute later Trooper 4 landed on the bridge north of the accident scene.

At 5:57 am Trooper 4 lifted off and transported the patient to the Trauma Center at Christiana Hospital

At around 6:00 am crews started clearing the scene but it looks like DSP is remaining on scene to investigate.

Some lanes have been reopened but traffic is crawling. Route 13 NB traffic is heavy as well.
