Smyrna, DE – The road leading into the James T. Vaughn Correctional Center was dedicated this morning in honor of Correctional Lieutenant Steven R. Floyd, Sr., who lost his life in the line of duty in 2017. The unveiling ceremony was attended by Governor John Carney, Commissioner Perry Phelps, Lt. Floyd’s family, as well as dozens of state officials, and officers.
“Naming this entrance road and placing the sign here will serve as a reminder of Lt. Floyd’s bravery and his dedication to the Department,” said the Commissioner. “We must ensure his sacrifice is never forgotten and pledge to serve the State of Delaware as professionals, treat others with dignity and respect, and always exhibit integrity in our actions, as Lt. Floyd did every day.”
“This road, dedicated in Lieutenant Floyd’s honor, is a reminder that his service and sacrifice has not been, nor will it be, forgotten,” said Governor John Carney. “I extend my deepest appreciation to everyone who worked together to make this dedication a reality. Thank you to all of our law enforcement officers, and the entire Department of Correction family for their service to our state every day.”
The dedication ceremony brought together a community in celebration of his bravery, 16 years of service, and the love he had for his family and friends.
