A Superior Court jury found a Smyrna man guilty of several charges including the kidnapping of two people.
Anthony Jones, 44, of Smyrna, was found guilty of 6 counts of Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony, 2 counts of Possession of a Firearm by a Person Prohibited, Reckless Endangering First Degree, 2 counts of Aggravated Menacing, Conspiracy Second Degree, 2 counts of Criminal Mischief, 2 counts of Kidnapping Second Degree, Burglary Second Degree, and Coercion.
On Saturday, September 15, 2018, at approximately 1:17 p.m., Troopers were dispatched to the 300 block of Grygo Road in Marydel for a shots fired complaint.
During their investigation,[ms-protect-content id=”35525,36371,36374,36464,36481″]Troopers learned that Jones had kidnapped two individuals at gunpoint. He then took them to a home in Marydel looking for his ex, and when he didn’t find her, fired a shot that struck her camper. Jones then traveled to Felton, and unlawfully entered his ex’s residence on Holly Spring Road.
When he realized she was not home, he ordered one of the kidnapped victims to smash the windows and slash the tires of a car in the driveway.
Troopers located the vehicle at the intersection of Holly Spring Road and Willow Grove Road, where a traffic stop was initiated. Contact was made with three occupants in the vehicle, the driver, a 43 Clayton Woman, Anthony Jones, who was a front seat passenger, and a 39-year-old male from Marydel who was a rear seat passenger. All three occupants were detained at the time.
A search of the vehicle led to the discovery of a loaded .45 caliber handgun with six rounds in the magazine, a box containing (40) .45 auto rounds, approximately 1.79 grams of crack cocaine, and drug paraphernalia.
Jones, prohibited from having a firearm because of previous drug convictions, will be sentenced by a judge in May.[/ms-protect-content]
