Two People Found Dead Inside Newport Apartment, Reportedly Shot

Update: This morning, Wednesday, March 13, 2019, at 8:53 a.m., patrol officers from the New Castle County Division of Police were dispatched to the unit block of Richards Drive in the Stonehurst Garden Apartments for a Death Investigation. When the patrol officers arrived, they entered the residence and found two people, one a 45-year-old mom and her one 18-month-old son, deceased.

Detectives from the New Castle County Division of Police Criminal Investigations Unit arrived and further determined that there is no perceived threat to the community.

The victims were turned over to the Delaware Division of Forensic Science to determine the cause and manner of death. This investigation is active and ongoing.

Initial reports from the scene indicate that the mother died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Police have not confirmed that.

At around 9:00 this morning, Wednesday, March 13, 2019, New Castle County Police, Delaware State Police, and area rescue crews responded to the 100 block of Richards Drive for reports of a shooting.

Shortly after their arrival, two people were found dead inside an apartment at the Stonehurst Garden Apartments near Newport.

Detectives are currently on scene investigating the deaths.

Police have not released details surrounding the incident.

On Monday two 17-year-olds were found shot to death on West 26th Street in Wilmington.
