The financial services firm, Acorns, whose investors include NBA superstar Kevin Durant, actor Ashton Kutcher, NBC Universal, and Comcast’s venture capital unit, is opening an office in The Mill co-working space in downtown Wilmington and hiring as many as 50 people.
Based in Irvine, California, Acorns offers various portfolios of exchange-traded funds (ETFs) based on a client’s risk tolerance. It also offers what it calls a “micro investing account,” in which a client’s debit card purchases are rounded up to the nearest dollar with the additional cents placed in an investment account.
The company reportedly plans to hire between 30 and 50 employees for its Wilmington office. At least two of Acorns executives are no strangers to Delaware’s financial services scene.
Chief Operating Officer Manning Field and Chief Technology Officer Hugh Tamassia both worked at JP Morgan Chase in Wilmington. Tamassia is also a University of Delaware graduate, according to his bio on the company’s website.
