East Main Street Reopens In Newark After Gas Leak

Newark – Newark Police and firefighters from Aetna Hose, Hook, and Ladder and the Christiana Fire Company have responded to Main Street near the Newark Shopping Center for a gas leak.

Newark Police are reporting that a major gas line has been struck by construction crews and the smell of gas is very strong.

Crews are evacuating area businesses and apartments.

Main Street has been closed at Trye Avenue. Avoid the area.

Update: Police are closing Main Street at Libray Avenue.

Update: Crews reporting minor readings inside the nearby apartments.

Update: Delmarva has shut off the gas and all firefighters have left the area.

Update: Newark Police and DelDOT crews are in the process of reopening the roadway.
