Inmate Back In Custody Seven Days After He Walked Away

On May 20, 2019, the Delaware Department of Correction announced that prisoner at the Sussex Community Corrections Center (SCCC) in Georgetown failed to return from an approved work
pass.

A Warrant for Escape after Conviction has was issued for William Weatherspoon who authorities say walked away on May 18, 2019. He was serving time for a Violation of Probation and Theft of a Motor vehicle.

On Saturday, May 25, 2019, William Weatherspoon was apprehended by the Laurel Police Department. He was arraigned at JP 3 before being committed to the Sussex Correctional Institution on an Escape after Conviction Warrant in lieu of $10,000 cash bail. In addition, he obtained a new charge of Criminal Impersonation, totaling $1,500 secured bond.

Community Corrections Centers are Level 4 facilities where the Department of Correction manages
offenders who are transitioning back into the community. These centers are not secured like Level 5
prisons, as offenders are permitted to leave the facility to go to work, seek jobs, or attend approved treatment sessions.
