Rehoboth Beach – The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating a fatal crash that occurred last evening involving a pedestrian, according to Public Information Officer, Master Corporal Melissa Jaffe.
Jaffe said the incident occurred on May 17, 2019, at approximately 11:09 p.m., when a 1993 Oldsmobile sedan was traveling southbound on Coastal Highway in the left lane approaching the area of Rehoboth Avenue Extended. The pedestrian was walking east to west from the northbound lanes, not in a designated crosswalk and walked directly in front of the Oldsmobile. As a result, the pedestrian was struck by the Oldsmobile.
The driver of the Oldsmobile, a 42-year-old male from Mohnton, Pennsylvania was properly restrained and not injured.
The pedestrian, a 56-year-old male from Rehoboth Beach was wearing dark clothing with no reflective material and was not carrying a light. He was pronounced deceased at the scene. His name is being withheld pending the notification of next of kin.
The Collision Reconstruction Unit is continuing their investigation into this incident.
