Last Friday (May 3) at approximately 8:40 p.m. officers from the New Castle County Division of Police were dispatched to the unit block of Mcmullen Ave, in the community of Manor Park, for a report of a domestic-related shooting. When the officers arrived, they found a 17-year-old female victim suffering from a minor gunshot wound to the leg.
After the victim was transported to a local area hospital for treatment, officers were able to take the suspect, 23-year-old Sayvien Mcrae into custody.
Detectives from the New Castle County Division of Police Criminal Investigation Unit arrived on scene and assumed the investigation.
The investigation revealed that there was an argument pertaining to the custody of a child, according to police. During the argument, Sayvien Mcrae fired one round into the sidewalk on McMullen Ave in close proximity to four people, police said. The victim was struck when the bullet ricocheted up from the sidewalk.
Sayvien Mcrae was transported to New Castle County Division of Police Headquarters and charged with one count felony Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony, one count felony Assault 2nd, and three counts of felony Reckless Endangering. He was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 11 and held in lieu of $48,000 cash bail.
