On Thursday evening, May 16, 2019, at about 6:00, Newark Police were dispatched to an apartment in the 2400 block of Millstone Drive for a report of an argument involving a firearm.
Upon arrival, officers contacted Patrick Powell, 21, of Wilmington, and took him into custody immediately. He reportedly had threatened someone with a handgun, said Lt. Andrew Rubin. Once taken into custody, officers found that he was in possession of a loaded 9mm handgun, according to Rubin.
Officers spoke with the reporting person who stated that she was an acquaintance of Powell’s and he had been at the residence as an overnight guest. They began to argue at which point Powell produced the handgun and pointed it at the victim, said Rubin. The victim was able to call the police, who arrived and took Powell into custody without incident.
Powell was transported to Newark Police Headquarters where he was charged with the following offenses:
Aggravated Menacing
Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony
Carrying a Concealed Deadly Weapon
Powell appeared before Justice of the Peace Court #2 where he was released on $49,000 unsecured bail.
Following Powell’s release from custody, he made contact with the victim in the incident in violation of a No Contact Order issued as part of his arrest. Newark Police obtained an arrest warrant for Breach of Release. The warrant is currently outstanding. Anyone with information as to Powell’s whereabouts is asked to contact Newark Police at (302) 366-7111 or 9-1-1.
