Wilmington Police have arrested and charged a 32-year-old man in connection with a fatal stabbing incident that occurred on Saturday, according to Wilmington Police Spokesman David Karas..
Karas said on June 22 at approximately 4:01 a.m., police responded to the area of 2nd and Walnut Streets in reference to a stabbing. Upon arrival, officers located the victim, 44-year-old Jerrell Booker. Officers attempted lifesaving measures before paramedics transported Booker to the hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
The case was assigned to Detective Devon Jones of the Criminal Investigations Division. Through the course of his investigation, Detective Jones quickly identified 32-year-old Dashawn Burton as a suspect and obtained arrest warrants for Burton on June 23, according to Karas.
On June 25, members of the Street Crimes Unit and the U.S. Marshals Task Force located and arrested Burton in the area of 5th and West Streets.
Burton has been charged with murder (first degree) and possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony.
He was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 20 and committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on $750,000 cash-only bail.
