The man responsible for the 2017 murder of a woman in Kirkwood Park in Wilmington was sentenced to 30 years in prison.
In October 2017, Timothy Jones, 41, of Wilmington stabbed Rashawna Weathers numerous times and wounded himself inside a Porta-Potty in the park on the 600 block of East 11th Street.
In the days following the homicide, police found Jones near the park with a freshly bandaged hand. Forensic evidence later helped link Jones to the commission of the murder.
Jones pleaded guilty in March 2019 to Murder Second Degree and Possession of a Deadly Weapon During the Commission of a Felony.
A Superior Court judge sentenced Jones to 30 years in prison, followed by 6 months of either home confinement or work release then 18 months of probation.
Update
A 40-year-old man who left a trail of blood from a homicide scene to his apartment complex has pled guilty to murder.
It was around 9:30 on Sunday morning, October 01, 2017, when a man walking his dog noticed feet protruding from the porta-potty in Wilmington’s Kirkwood Park.
After returning to his residence to retrieve his phone, the man and his girlfriend returned to the park where they discovered the bloodied body of 31-year-old Rashawna Weathers inside the porta-potty and immediately called the police.
In the days following the discovery police found Timothy D. Jones near the park with a freshly bandaged hand. Forensic evidence and surveillance videos link him to the murder, according to prosecutors.
Officials announced Friday that Jones pled guilty to Murder Second Degree and Possession of a Deadly Weapon During the Commission of a Felony.
A Superior Court judge will sentence Jones later this year.
