Travel Alert: Major Bridge Shut Down Near Washington DC

Overturned Tractor Trailer Closes All Local Lanes of Southbound Capital Beltway at Woodrow Wilson Bridge

All local lanes of the Capital Beltway remain closed at the Woodrow Wilson Bridge, past exit 2A, National Harbor Boulevard for an overturned tractor-trailer caused by a collision. The overturned vehicle blocks all local lanes and a section of the concrete jersey wall separating local and through lanes was destroyed in this collision.
HAZMAT units from Prince George’s County Fire and EMS are on scene working as a result of diesel fuel leaking from the saddle tanks of the overturned truck.

This is expected to be an extended situation and travelers are advised to avoid the area and use alternate routes. Anyone traveling to National Harbor utilizing the inner loop (southbound) of the Capital Beltway should expect delays and plan accordingly.

At 7:00 AM, The Maryland State Police Forestville Barrack was notified of a motor vehicle collision involving an overturned tractor-trailer in the area of the southbound local lanes of I-495 at the Woodrow Wilson Bridge. There were no injuries in this collision.
